Heart and Soul of Franciacorta
T
he history of the cellar starts with Giovanni, who, after having worked in Switzerland and Germany, comes back in his motherland, Franciacorta, and, at the end of the '60 starts a long lasting rastoration process on both the vineyards and the ancient farmhouse in ruins, and founds "La Riccafana". Already from the name, it is obvious that one of the main cornerstones of the cellar is the bond with the land; Riccafana, in fact, is the place name of the portion of the hill where the cellar raises.
Giovanni looks for perfection, and isn't satisfied with what he has already done. He perfectly understands the real resources of the area..
And together with other winemakers, he improves and makes better the production of what today is known with the only and popular term "Franciacorta". From the father, Giovanni, to the son, Riccardo, the company philosophy never changed; actually, in 2002 Riccardo takes the important decision to convert the whole production into organic and the ancient cellar is made bigger and bigger, in order to take advantage of the 13 hectares located in an exclusive and strategic position, at the southern slopes of Monte Orfano.
The organic conversion does not represent a finish line, but only a starting point
In Riccardo becomes bigger everyday one single desire: to bring the grapes in the glasses of the whole world and to respect the natural element, on the one hand in the country and in the vineyards and on the other hand in the cellar, are still today the cornerstones of the pilosophy of La Riccafana. During the years new equipment and tools are bought, in order to respect the nature and protect its features at the very best. Every choice goes in this direction: the extreme regard and promotion of the place and the grapes' features in this portion of Franciacorta, the Monte Orfano, which stands out for minerality and salinity.
Our corporate philosophy makes us think that uncorking a bottle of our cellar means not only to drink well and enjoy, but also to feel the passion, the love, the magnificence and the surprise...because making wine is growing new emotions!
